Two CBC managers connected to the Jian Ghomeshi scandal have been suspended, the corporation announced Monday afternoon.
Todd Spencer, executive director of human resources, and Chris Boyce, executive director of CBC Radio and Audio, “will be on a leave of absence effective today until further notice,” according to an email from Heather Conway, executive vice-president, to CBC employees.
Boyce appeared on an episode of CBC’s The Fifth Estate titled “The Unmaking of Jian Ghomeshi.” During his interview with Gillian Findlay, Boyce said that CBC managers knew about the allegations against Ghomeshi as early as July 2014.
Chuck Thompson, the head of media relations for CBC, confirmed that the leaves of absence were a management decision related to the Ghomeshi case, but declined to give any specific reasons for the suspensions.
“We acted today having taken into account relevant information and circumstances,” he said.
Ghomeshi was fired from the network in October over allegations of sexual assault. He was charged in November with four counts of sexual assault and one count of choking.
