OTTAWA — Julian Fantino appears to be on his way out as veterans affairs minister.
Multiple sources tell The Canadian Press the embattled Fantino is expected to be replaced by Erin O’Toole, a southern Ontario MP and former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Fantino, a tough-talking former police chief, found himself in trouble almost from the moment he took the post in July 2013.
The two of them have arrived at Rideau Hall, along with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, for a surprise ceremony.
Fantino’s presence means he is likely to get another post within the federal cabinet.
Prior to being promoted to Veterans Affairs, Fantino was the associate minister of defence in charge of procurement.
