By The Numbers: A look at former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle

TORONTO — Randy Carlyle was fired as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Here is a look at Carlyle — by the numbers (entering Tuesday night’s games):

3 – Number of playoff games Carlyle won as a coach over parts of four seasons in Toronto. He guided the Maple Leafs to the post-season in 2013 but Toronto fell to the Boston Bruins in the first round.

4 – Number of NHL coaches who have been fired this season. Carlyle’s firing came after Paul MacLean (Ottawa), Dallas Eakins (Edmonton) and Pete DeBoer (New Jersey) were let go by their respective teams.

17 – Number of seasons Carlyle spent as a player in the NHL. The 58-year-old native of Sudbury, Ont., started his NHL career with the Maple Leafs in 1976-77 and later played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets.

45 – Number of points the Maple Leafs have earned this season. Toronto is tied for 16th place in the overall standings. Sixteen teams will make the post-season.

48 – Number of years since the Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup. Carlyle was just 11 years old when Toronto defeated the Montreal Canadiens to win the championship in 1967.

21-16-3 – Carlyle’s record with the Maple Leafs this season. He was let go after a disappointing 2-5-0 road trip. Toronto is in fourth place in the Atlantic Division and hovering on the playoff bubble in the Eastern Conference.

91-78-19 – Carlyle’s overall coaching record with the Maple Leafs. He started his NHL coaching career with Anaheim in 2005 after spending six seasons as head coach of the Manitoba Moose in the IHL and AHL.

121 – Number of goals Toronto has allowed this season, the fifth-worst total in the NHL. The Maple Leafs are ahead of Arizona, Dallas, Edmonton and Buffalo in the category, all sub-.500 teams.

130 – Number of goals Toronto has scored this season, good for No. 2 overall in the 30-team league. Phil Kessel leads the Maple Leafs with 18 goals, followed by James van Riemsdyk (17) and Tyler Bozak (13).

2007 – The year Carlyle won a Stanley Cup as a head coach. He guided the Anaheim Ducks to a 48-20-14 record that season and a five-game victory over the Ottawa Senators in the Cup final.
