CALGARY — Olympic curling champion Brad Jacobs defeated Swedish skip Niklas Edin 4-1 on Thursday as Canada took two of the first three points available in Draw 1 action at the Continental Cup.
The tournament features Canada against Europe in a four-day competition of team, mixed doubles, hot-shots and skins games.

Jacobs and his rink from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., took a 2-1 lead after the fifth end, then pulled away with single points in the sixth and eighth ends. It was a rematch of the 2013 world championship final, which Edin won 8-6.
Rachel Homan and her Ottawa rink gave Canada another point with a 7-2 win over Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson. Homan sealed the victory with three points in the eighth end.
Russian skip Anna Sidorova gave Europe its lone point with a 7-2 win over Edmonton’s Val Sweeting.
