LARIMORE, N.D. – Authorities say a 62-year-old bus driver and a 17-year-old student have died and 12 other people are injured after a train-school bus collision in North Dakota.
The Highway Patrol says the bus failed to yield to railroad crossing and stop signs and collided with an empty freight train Monday afternoon. It happened on a gravel road about 5 miles east of Larimore in the northeastern part of the state, about 100 miles north of Fargo.
The bus was from the Larimore Public School District. Superintendent Roger Abbe declined comment.
Highway Patrol Lt. Troy Hischer says the weather was clear at the time of the crash.
BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says the train was not carrying any cargo. She says the two BNSF crew members on the train were not injured.
