Minecraft is finally getting a real story thanks to Telltale, the creators of the popular The Walking Dead game series.
Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series, isn’t being created to be Minecraft’s official story, but according to Mojang, the series’ creators, it will include characters and various themes from the very popular Minecraft universe.
A statement about the upcoming game from Mojang reads as follows:
“Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.
Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.”
Telltale games is creating a new adventure title set in Mojang’s Minecraft universe.
The new game is mainly being created by Telltale but Mojang and the members of Minecraft’s player community will contribute to the game in some sense. Much like Telltale’s previous titles like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and the recently released Game of Thrones, Minecraft: Story Mode will be released episodically.
If the interactive dialogue announcement called “Info Quest II” for Minecraft: Story Mode is any indication popular Minecraft figure “Steve” won’t be playing a role int he game. It’s unclear if the game will be built in Minecraft’s popular pixelated game engine or if Telltale will be building their own vision of the Minecraft universe
Minecraft: Story mode is set to be released for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices at some point next year.
