VAL GARDENA, Italy – American racer Steven Nyman won the World Cup downhill on the classic Saslong course for the third time on Friday.
Kjetil Jansrud of Norway, who won the opening two downhills this season, finished second, 0.31 seconds behind.
Dominik Paris of Italy was third, 1.15 back.
Nyman’s other wins came in 2006 and 2012. He has never won anywhere else, although he entered in solid form following a third-place result in Beaver Creek, Colorado, this month.
Florian Scheiber of Austria crashed and was airlifted off the course by helicopter.
The race was originally scheduled for Saturday and was moved up a day amid concerns that warm weather would ruin the course. A super-G will be held Saturday.
