Goaltender Zachary Fucale and defenceman Matt Murphy are on the move.
The Halifax Mooseheads announced Friday, just after noon Atlantic Time, that the two veterans have been traded to the Quebec Remparts.
Halifax is also giving up its fifth round selection in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft, but in return receives 19-year-old netminder Eric Brassard, along with rights to Quebec’s first and third round picks in the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft, and first and second round picks in the 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft.
“This was obviously a difficult decision to make for myself and the franchise but we are happy that Zach and Matt will get the opportunity to play for the Memorial Cup once again,” general manager Cam Russell said in a news release.
“We want to wish those guys all the best and thank them for everything they’ve done for the Halifax Mooseheads over the past few years,” he said.
Fucale and Murphy both won the 2013 Memorial Cup with the Herd. The mid-season trade period started Friday, with deadline set for Jan. 6.
The Remparts are currently in fourth place of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, second place of the East Division. The Halifax Mooseheads are in 10th place of the QMJHL, third place of the Maritimes Division.
More to come.
