Halo: The Masterchief Collection has suffered a very troubled release.
Since the game’s release on Nov. 11 players have experienced issues launching matchmaking multiplayer matches. Multiple patches have been pushed out by 343 Industries in an effort to rectify the situation, but matchmaking wait times still end up frequently being exceedingly long.
Following Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed Unity’s lead, Microsoft and 343 Industries are offering anyone who plays The Masterchief Collection between Nov. 11 and Dec. 19 a free remake of Halo 3: ODST, a downloadable Halo 3 expansion pack originally released for the Xbox 360 back in 2009.
343 Industries’ studio head, Bonnie Ross, apologized to Halo fans and gave additional details regarding the free content offer in a recent blog post on Microsoft’s official website.
As compensation for The Masterchief Collection’s issues, players will also get a free month of Xbox Live, the Halo 2 Anniversary map “Relic” and an exclusive Xbox Live avatar and nameplate.
Last month Ubisoft offered free downloadable content to anyone who purchased Assassin’s Creed Unity and also a free game to Unity season pass owners.
The end of 2014 has been marred with the release of games experiencing significant issues with high-profile titles like Assassin’s Creed Unity, Halo The Masterchief Collection, Drive Club and Far Cry 4.
