The year that was 2014 was “huge” across the board in science, according to Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics research Damian Pope, but especially so for physicists.
Quantum computers “took a big leap from prototypes in the lab towards useful, practical, live-scale quantum computers,” which are still a few years away.
Blue LED lights were also celebrated with a Nobel Prize this year, and the European Space Agency captured global imaginations with the Philae lander, which managed to latch onto a comet 10 years away.
Find out what else got scientists excited in 2014 in this video interview with Pope.
